I am getting some information about the VDOT adopt-a-highway program to consider whether or not the club would like to participate. Once I get the information I will let everyone know the details but I wanted to put it on here to see if people would be willing to go out to a stretch of road periodically (I have heard once a month is the requirement but I won't know for sure until I get the details) to help with road clean up. I figured it would be good publicity to get an adopt-a-highway sign with our club name on it to show we're doing good things in the community. Comments? _________________ Chris Wells

Yeah I'd be up for cleaning up some trash. How long of a stretch of road do you adopt? _________________ Adam Otstot

Ok, here is the deal.
We can choose any road we want in James City or York County and as long as it hasn't been taken or isn't deemed too dangerous then VDOT will assign it to us for a period of 2 years.
The standard distance that is assigned is 2 miles and we are required to do a clean up at least 4 times a year. VDOT will put up an Adopt-A-Highway sign at the start and finish of our 2 mile stretch with our club name on it. VDOT provides bags, gloves and safety vests for us to use. Whoever is in charge will be responsible for notifying VDOT 1 week in advance of a pick up and getting the supplies from them. VDOT will pick up the bags the day following a pick up.
Does anyone have any roads that they regularly train on that look like a good option? Remember it must be James City or York County. _________________ Chris Wells

Unfortunately the stretch of Centerville we requested was already snatched up. Does anyone have any other suggested roadways that we could adopt? I was thinking about Crawford Rd (York County) which is part of the Yorktown sprint course. Some of that roadway may be maintained by the park service though. _________________ Chris Wells
